Finally, the assassination of Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino on August 21, 1983
changed the course of Philippine history. This single event became an
not only because an international event  but caused those opposed to Pres. Marcos
to unite in a concerted effort to oust him from power.

Local and international supporters of Sen. Aquino's widow Corazon soon rallied
against Pres. Marcos and pressed for his resignation as President.

The slogan HINDI KA NAG IISA (You are not alone) was used by the street
parliamentarians to signify the unity with the late Sen. Aquino's fight against Pres. Marcos.

In a sudden twist, but perhaps more to prove that he was still in control of the
country and specially of the military, Pres. Marcos called for
Snap Elections in February of 1986.
